TIME, Memory And Myth will conduct a visual roller-coaster ride through the 30-year history of Impressions Gallery in York, celebrating past artists, exhibitions, staff and friends dating back to its beginnings in 1972.
The exhibition's run from October 5 to November 30 at the Castlegate gallery will be launched next Friday by a series of light projections on to the nearby medieval walls of Clifford's Tower at 7.30pm.
To mark Impressions' pioneering contribution to exhibiting and promoting the art of photography, co-founding director Val Williams, former director Paul Wombell and current director Anne McNeill will present an array of images in Time, Memory And Myth.
The show will feature a "star-studded cast" with works by Cecil Beaton and Sebastio Salgado, among others. It will be accompanied by a full colour, 16-page commemorative catalogue, containing images from past exhibitions and a comprehensive list of all the artists displayed at Impressions. The catalogue costs £2 but is free to all those who contributed memories. Impressions is open daily, except Sunday, from 10am to 6pm, and admission is free.
