Car parking charges are again upsetting people - Mr Peter James (Letters, September 24) for example.

There are some simple alternatives to use if people want to shop in York but don't want to pay car park charges.

1. Go by our reliable bus service!

2. Park in a side street and receive a penalty notice!

3. Take a taxi, £5 each way, good value for money!

4. Walk!

If you don't want to pay a car park charge, don't, one less car space in a car park will soon be filled by someone who will.

...I concur with the sentiments of Mr Peter James . If Mr James is of the opinion that City of York Council is overcharging residents to park, then consider the anomaly which is directed at visitors to York.

We are obliged to pay even more than York residents, for no apparent reason.

Surely car parking charges should be less for visitors than residents. Resident do have the option of public transport.

A similar discrepancy occurs at York hospital, only in this case the NHS have seen fit to punish those people who are in need of their services.

Thankfully I only have to avail myself of this rip-off once a year. Again, for people who live outside the city, parking at the hospital should be free while those residing within the city should use public transport.
