A BRACE of shock results graced the opening salvoes in the York FA Saturday Senior Cup.

Top of the stunners was the 2-0 home defeat of premier division side Dunnington by Post Office from division one.

A similar triumph was registered by Civil Service, who ousted premier outfit Riccall 2-1.

Post Office thoroughly deserved their victory with a great all round team performance.

The Post Office took the lead on the half hour when a 25-yard free kick from Mike Heels flew into the top corner. Heels completed the scoring 15 minutes from time after being put through by substitute Nick Bissett.

After a goal less first hall it took Civil Service only two minutes to take the lead against Riccall United with a goal by Alex Ingram.

Riccall equalised with a Darren Davis volley following a cross from the right but within a further two minutes Joe Michelli had restored the Civil Service lead and even though Riccall fought for an equaliser Service ran out deserved winners.

New Earswick entertained Tockwith from the Harrogate League and after an even start with New Earswick's Paul Stimpson dominant in midfield it was Tockwith who took the lead.

Man of the match Graham Hutchinson cracked the ball in from 20 yards to give 'keeper Darren Winters no chance.

With 20 minutes of the tie remaining, controlled play by Robert Wilson found Hutchinson who netted with a great shot off the post to seal a 2-0 triumph.

Haxby & Wigginton took a first half lead against Norwich Union when a cross from the right found Garry Rylance for a simple goal.

Chris Dyson netted his side's second and then Craig Parker stole in round the back of the defence to complete the victory.

Rufforth took a surprise lead against Bishopthorpe with a Danny Bodden goal, but by the midpoint of the match Bishopthorpe were level thanks to an own goal.

In the second half Graham Wigley headed Bishopthorpe into the lead and Gregg Fitzmorris doubled the advantage.

Last season's finalists Pocklington needed to go a goal down to Fulford as a wake up call before running out easy 6-1 winners. On target were Barry Gargett, Brent Terry, Owen Ellis, Dave Abblett and Mark Abblett, plus an own goal.

Simon Kehoe got South Bank off to a great start with a cracking 30 yard shot and further goals followed from Glen Pallister and Martin Cowl (2) for a 4-0 success over Wigginton Black Horse.

In the York FA Saturday Junior Cup Huntington Reserves and Copmanthorpe Reserves fought out an exciting game with Danny Franklin putting Huntington into the lead after only five minutes, team-mate Jake Wilson netting early in the second half.

Copmanthorpe pulled a goal back and hit the bar but Huntington held out.

Stamford Bridge Reserves defeated York RI by the same 2-1 scoreline with close-range strikes from Mark Midgley and Martin Smith.

In the York FA Sunday Morning Senior Cup, Acomb WMC took a 15th minute lead against Wigginton with James Tose netting. But by half time Wigginton through Adam Wash.

Acomb WMC restored their lead with a James Hewitson free-kick only for Wash to again level with a well-taken volley. With seven minutes remaining, David Thompson scored the winner for Wigginton with a backheel flick from a corner.

Tockwith completed a fine weekend double for the club as they defeated Acomb SC 1-0 in a game either side could have won. Robert Wilson netted the decisive strike in the 22nd minute.

Nestl Rowntree were far too strong for Volunteers running out easy 9-3 winners with goals from man of the match Steve Ward (4), Matthew Wain (4) and Simon Kehoe.
