YORK City youth team defender Graeme Law made a winning start to his international career last night as Scotland Under-19s beat Switzerland 2-1 at Dumbarton.

Law, who is based in Copmanthorpe, came off the bench for his debut in the 75th minute with the scores at 1-1 and the Minsterman put in a 'lively' display as the Scots snatched the win.

Celtic's Craig Beattie bagged both goals as the Scots honed their preparations for next month's U19s European Championships qualifying competition in Slovenia.

Law, who qualifies for Scotland through his parents, is now hoping he has done enough to earn a place in that squad which will face the hosts, Yugoslavia and Iceland in the first stage of the qualifiers.

Law's international call to duty has swelled the growing international brigade at the Bootham Crescent club.

All the home nations are represented through Russ Howarth (England U20s), Alan Fettis (Northern Ireland international) and Lee Nogan (Wales international), plus current Turkish U-19 international goal-getter Levent Yalcin.
