YORK City reserves suffered their second successive defeat, losing 3-1 to Huddersfield Town in the first round of the Avon Insurance League Cup, writes Dave Stanford.
Two of the Terriers' goals were superbly executed overhead kicks from Jon Stead on 43 minutes and from Paul Macari on the hour mark.
Macari, son of former Manchester United and Scotland forward Lou, had already fired Huddersfield into the lead midway through the first half.
City fought back gamely and grabbed what was to prove a consolation goal on 75 minutes.
Trainees Levent Yalcin and Adam Arthur combined ahead of Argentinian winger Nicolas Mazzina firing into the roof of the net.
Defeat does not end City's hopes in the competition. They will also play Barnsley and Hull City in the first round's round-robin format.
City were struck by a fresh injury concern. Central defender Mike Basham, who has only just shaken off a chest infection after recovering from ankle surgery, limped from the field on 25 minutes.
Torquay United have confirmed they are keen to sign former City junior and ex-Scarborough striker Chris Tate on a month's loan.
Tate is on trial at Plainmoor after being deemed surplus to requirements at Leyton Orient.
