I HAVE often commented on the 'misleading' title of Tadcaster Grammar School, when in fact, as everyone should now know, the school is really a comprehensive. From time to time various reasons have been trotted out for this strange and anachronistic name retention for the school.

None of which are convincing.

According to a reader's letter (September 16), Tadcaster Grammar School is now referred to as "Tadcaster Grammar"!

Owen Oglethorpe of Newton Kyme, Bishop of Carlisle, whose coat-of-arms adorned the main entrance of the now- demolished London Road building which houses Tadcaster Grammar School must be turning in his grave at the supposedly 'new' title "Tadcaster Grammar" and which, for some odd reason, has now dropped the very important word 'school' from its title.
