Yorkshire are looking to December 7 as the probable date for another extraordinary general meeting at which members will be asked to take the club another step closer to the abolition of the committee, writes David Warner.

The 'Gang of Four', who took over the running of the club last month in order to get it out of its financial mess, want the membership to approve the status quo until the 2003 annual meeting takes place in March.

At the annual meeting the management team will seek to stay in office for a further year at which stage there will be another constitutional revamp resulting in a permanent board up to eight strong.

If the December meeting agrees, there will be no committee elections from now on and those committee representatives who are not due to retire in 2003 will serve as a liaison group between the board and the club's members.

The plan was approved by the committee this week when it was outlined to them by club president Robin Smith who formed the 'Gang of Four', its other members being new chief executive Colin Graves, who is chairman and managing director of the Costcutter supermarket chain; chartered accountant Brian Bouttell, a former senior partner with KPMG, and Geoff Cope, the Yorkshire chairman.
