FULFORDGATE, the York White Rose Ladies' League division one champions, faced fierce resistance at Railway Institute.

Beryl Glover-Marion Stilgoe took the first of the pairs after successfully teaming with Val Mackenzie and Jean Hussein but Institute struck with Irene Taylor-Denise Fahey and Taylor levelled.

Stilgoe threw well to put Fulfordgate in front but Institute replied with skipper Dot Osborne then Rose Blower in the decider.

New York's Rose Grimes shot a splendid 21 darts but Sun took the match 5-2, while Maureen Lodge took Fulford Conservatives to victory over Clarence with an excellent 21 darter.

Milly Mountain and Chris Horsman put Crescent all square at Golden Slipper but Catherine Gascoyne pulled off the last game win.

Winning Post went 3-0 up but Jo Piercy, Hilary Geldard then Dawn Platt put Lord Nelson in with a chance.

However, Pat had the ever-reliable Ann Robinson to anchor them to victory.

Pat Jamieson got Crystal Palace their winner at Alice Hawthorn and Iris Haigh similarly took King Williams to victory against Bowling Club.

From 2-0 down, wins by Denise Reilly, Mary McKinnon then Vicky Le Monnier supported a pairs win by the latter and Ann Collier gave Tankard a 4-3 victory over Bay Horse, Tadcaster.

Paula Hawksby sealed Red Lion's 4-3 win at Bay Horse, Murton.

Anne Bass closed on treble 17, double 19 and colleague Dawn Exton slotted in treble 15 double top finish as Cygnet 'A' overwhelmed their 'B' team 6-3 in York John Smith's Ladies' League division one.

Sandra Bruce hit the tons to put Ox 4-2 up against Phoenix 'A'. Diane Moreland and Chris Hall hit back but Ox's Tracey Watkinson and Wendy Shortle secured the match.

Angie Hields was in ton mode as Phoenix 'B' dumped Dringhouses 6-3 to pull closer to the front-runners, York Arms.

Sarah Jackson shone for Clifton, winning her singles then playing a lone hand in the pairs to gain their only other point at Slip, whose Jackie Clemit and Gill Warriner starred. Dot Trousdale partnered Dorothy Bruce to get Half Moon a 5-4 win against Tap.

Clifton 'B' polished off Slipper 6-3 in division two and Leeman 'B' moved into second place.

Shepherd 'B' lost 7-2 to good finishing from Jubilee, while Britannia 'B' had Janet McShane-Betty Pinder securing a 5-4 win against Shepherd 'A' and Carol Robson partnered Deanna Joy to snatch victory for Severus against Britannia 'A'.

Holgate sealed the division three title with a 5-4 win against Puss 'A', Max Smith and Babs Potter seeing them to victory.

Puss 'B' still hold second place despite being crushed by Woolpack, who cleaned up the pairs for a 7-2 scoreline.

Leeman 'A' snookered close rivals Cue Ball, Margaret Yeomans partnering Christina Waddington to clinch a 5-4 victory, which gives them a chance of the runners-up prize. Leeman 'C' were taken to the wire by Tang Hall WMC but Shelagh Kenny-Ann Reagan proved equal to the task.

Ebor, with Marie Simpson in form, unseated Mount 6-3, whose Julie Brownlee shone.
