SOME time ago I attended a meeting at the Guildhall to discuss transport in York.
The expert from Leeds opened his talk by stating that many humps in York were not lawful. What a surprise!
There can never be any proof that humps prevent accidents. Humps do not prevent speeding, there is a great variance of how humps affect different cars.
There is a great injustice to vehicle owners driving at a legal speed having to surmount these obstacles with discomfort and damage to suspension.
I have yet to meet anyone who has been asked by the council if they agree to humps.
Yes, I know the council asks convoluted questions, the answers to which they interpret as an agreement. But are we ever asked "do you want humps or old persons' homes, public toilets, street cleaning or any other preferred expenditure?" I think not.
