While walking my dog on Friday, September 13, I decided to check out the environmental improvements in the Millennium Green.
Taking the footpath off Water Lane leading to Garnet Terrace, I was appalled by the amount of rubbish and debris that has been allowed to accumulate around the filter screen under the bridge on Holgate Beck.
From bicycles to bottles, wastepaper to cans it was all there. What a pity that those authorities charged with the maintenance and cleaning of this lovely spot have not fulfilled their basic duties. Even more alarming, if it's the responsibility of Yorkshire Water, is the fact that this eyesore is on the "doorstep" of its Acomb Landing site.
I wonder if this lack of diligence in operational responsibilities is symptomatic of other maintenance issues. If it is, it could explain why we have so many flooding problems in this area.
