ANDREA Finnegan hobbled down the "aisle" today on crutches, her honeymoon well and truly gone to pot.

Now the mother-of-four plans to sue a contracting company, who she blames for spoiling her big day.

Less than two weeks before her wedding at Selby Register Office, Andrea, 36, tripped and fell, breaking her left ankle.

But she was determined to go ahead and tie the knot with her partner of six years, Gordon Welsh, 35, a lorry driver.

The couple will still fly to Corfu for their two-week honeymoon, but have had to abandon their plans to go horse riding, cycle riding and swimming. Andrea, of Abbots Road, Selby, said: "Walking on crutches with a pot on your leg is not the best way to arrive at your wedding."

Andrea broke her ankle while walking just outside her parents' shop, in Gowthorpe.

She said: "Contractors had been laying new pipes. They left a big lump of tarmac next to the pavement edge and I fell down the side of it."

A spokesman for the contractors, Halcrow Group Ltd, said he was aware of the compensation claim, but could not make any comment until they had carried out a full investigation.
