FOR many motorists the sight of an AA roadside telephone will bring back memories of a bygone age of motoring, recalling days when assistance arrived astride a motorbike with a sidecar.

Such boxes are now to be stripped of their phones as most drivers now carry mobiles.

The structures will remain as reminders of distant days but the insides will be removed, made redundant by time and technology.
