COUNCILLOR Richard Paddison has stated the HGV parking ban in Tadcaster should remain in place.
Because this councillor represents Sherburn-in-Elmet, perhaps I can inform him that Tadcaster Town Council is against the ban as are Selby district councillors who represent Tadcaster and the traders and townspeople of the town.
By banning HGV parking in the town, Tadcaster traders stand to lose £50,000 to £75,000 a year - money that they can ill afford. There will be no provision for coaches to load/unload passengers in the town. This is required by an authority that has pledged to support the regeneration of Tadcaster.
Selby District Council has little or no idea of the depth of local feeling in this matter or of the resentment felt in Tadcaster when people who seldom, if ever, visit the town and yet make decisions of this kind. This authority should listen more closely to local members before making decisions about areas and the people who are directly affected by its actions.
