IT took 33 years for Yorkshire to become county champions once again but only a further year to be relegated.
The club has implemented a radical restructuring of its administration in an attempt to address the many off-field problems notably the club's dire financial state.
An equally radical change is now required on the playing side.
The policy of signing a "star player", usually an Australian batsman, which with one notable exception has delivered the runs.
However, the team has too often failed when the star player has had a bad knock.
Instead of hiring a star Yorkshire should look to obtaining the services of a skilled captain one with good tactical and man management skills.
Until the team is more than the sum of some of its parts then its fortunes will continue to revolve around the form of the star man.
The current policy can succeed for some games as in the recent C&G Final at Lord's but not in a league where consistency is required.
