Timing is napped to get punters off to a winning start at the three-day Ayr Western meeting, which kicks-off tomorrow and climaxes on Saturday with the £100,000 Tote Ayr Gold Cup.

Trained by the in-form Tim Easterby, Timing goes for the £15,000 Giles Insurance Brokers Ayrshire Hospice Showcase Handicap over one miles and seven furlongs, and will have the assistance of useful apprentice David Allan, who won on her at Thirsk two outings ago.

Timing produced an even better display in defeat on her latest start at Haydock, coming from a long way off the pace in a hot race to finish fourth to Dune. The form of that contest received a boost at Doncaster last Saturday when the runner-up Royal Cavalier returned to winning form.

The expected good-to-soft ground at Ayr is ideal for Timing, and I expect her to be difficult to beat on what promises to be another lucrative afternoon for the Easterby stable.

The Great Habton trainer can also score with the promising Magic Myth, already a dual-winner, who lines-up for the Giles Insurance Brokers Ltd Ayrshire Hospice Nursery. Robert Winston takes the mount.

Colway Ritz should not be overlooked in the betfair.com Apprentice Series Handicap at Pontefract tomorrow.

Wilf Storey's old-timer ended a long losing sequence when winning in style at York earlier this month. He has since suffered a luckless defeat at Newcastle, meeting trouble in running and being denied a clear run until it was too late to finish any closer than fifth in a big field. Compensation should come the way of Colway Ritz tomorrow, with smart apprentice Lisa Jones in the saddle.

Ryan Moore, another talented apprentice, is expected to make his mark on recent winner Pageant in the Dewsbury Selling Handicap.
