ALONG with all right-thinking people, I am delighted that fewer families with children have suffered the misery and insecurity of living in bed and breakfast accommodation during the past year (September 5).

I sincerely hope the delay in the provision of hostel accommodation for the single homeless will also soon be behind us and the constant struggle against insolvency faced by the homelessness charities caring for our most deprived citizens will become a thing of the past as well.

Earlier this year, both the Arclight and Peasholme organisations were forced to issue redundancy notices to staff, because the transitional arrangements which were supposed to ease them through Government-led changes to their system of back up funding, proved to be inadequate.

As Liberal Democrats have consistently pointed out, this failure to provide a steady flow of funding can only undermine the outstanding work carried out by these two vital local organisations, of which this city can be justly proud.
