Poppleton moved into second place in the Tyke Petroleum Men's League first division after beating Sutton 67-41 thanks to 27 games each from Ashley Dearing and Alex Moore and John Moore with Tom Richardson.

Nearer the bottom, Riccall edged nearer safety beating York 58-50. Howard Pallister and Hamie Moore were York's top scorers with 25 but Riccall's overall performance, led by 21 from John Tongue and Paul Elmhurst, was better.

Knaresborough finished their second season by conceding their four remaining matches to finish on -five points.

Wheldrake were promoted from division two after a 70-38 win at York II. David McDermott and Graham Taylor did the damage with 28. Despite beating Poppleton II 68-40, Strensall finished third yet again.

Two points separate the top three in division three with one match to play. Boston Spa had a comfortable win at Sherburn but Castlegarth were less convincing against Bishopthorpe, who needed only three games from the last 12 but could not score.

Castlegarth II topped division four but could beat bottom club Fulford by only four games and all in the final rubber.

Wayne Isherwood and Dave Schofield's 26 were enough to ensure that Copmanthorpe II beat Wilberfoss.

Nestl completed their division five programme in top spot equal on points with Riccall II who have one to play. For Nestl Dale Pollard and John Bankah scored a rare 28 against Rufforth.

Cawood II beat New Earswick II 93-15 in division six, where John Cattanach and John Nicholls scored 33, and Dan Butts with Rod Hudson chipped in with a 32.

Clubs are reminded that all matches must be completed by September 29.
