I AM all for new developments and the accompanying jobs and boost to the local economy, but it seems to me that the local people in Rawcliffe are quite right about the problems that are going to come with the proposed new village (August 19).

In the United States, housing developers are often only granted planning permission if they agree to supply services to the area, such as building shops, road improvements, recreational facilities, and even building new schools.

Why can we not do the same?
