THE start of the Bank Holiday weekend brought few traffic problems to North and East Yorkshire.

Some roads and motorways were said to have "heavy and slow-moving traffic" in parts last night, but there were no serious delays.

A spokeswoman for AA Roadwatch said that there was also little traffic on the region's roads this morning.

She said: "At the moment all is looking well across the whole of the north.

"It was busier last night, we had heavy and slow-moving traffic on the major roads, but there were no extensive delays and it wasn't as bad as it has been previously.

"The holiday is earlier this year and families won't be rushing home to get the kids ready for school. Whereas the traffic usually picks up on a Monday afternoon, we may find that it remains quiet for longer."

Train passengers were facing disruption today as conductors at Arriva Trains Northern stage their 18th strike over pay.

Members of the Rail Maritime and Transport union were walking out for 24 hours, hitting services across the North.
