THE York Coroner is anxious to speak to three youths who were seen talking to Diamond Wharton before his death.
But police have stressed the cause of death is not suspicious.
Mr Wharton, 34, from Hamilton Drive, York, was found slumped over a wall in Holgate Road, at about 1.45am on Sunday.
He was discovered by members of a hen party who raised the alarm.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said Mr Wharton is believed to have left a flat off Holgate Road at about 1.30am. Minutes later he met three youths at the top of Holgate Hill, near to the Hamilton Drive junction.
The spokesman said: "We want those youths to come forward to help with the coroner's investigations. We do stress the death is not suspicious."
The coroner's office said Mr Wharton died of asphyxia.
