MOVES to tailor bus services to cater for York's growing caf culture are set to be unveiled by First in York.

The company will announce a series of changes to its Metro and Park&Ride timetable in a bid to make them even further accessible to passengers.

Among the changes are moves to extend the number six ten-minute service into York District Hospital and Clifton Moor.

The Evening Press has already reported on plans to reintroduce a bus timetable into Chapelfields, in Acomb.

Also on the agenda is a plan to run services later into the evening, allowing passengers to enjoy evenings in the city - but still get their bus home.

Peter Edwards, First commercial manager, said the moves were part of a new look at the Metro service, which will have been running for one year in September.

He added that the growing trend for people to spend more time in York, especially in the evenings, made it vital that the city had a bus service which was adaptable.

Mr Edwards said: "We are trying to realise the changes there have been in economic activity in the city. There is life in York after 6pm. There are restaurants and a burgeoning caf culture in York. We must cater for that.

"We are improving the frequency of services in the early evening so people don't have to rush home from work. They can stop in town a bit longer."

Mr Edwards added that the timetable arrangements were still being finalised but would be available in the coming weeks.

"We will extend our number six service to Clifton Moor and York District Hospital, effectively giving hospital staff a Park&Ride service," he said.

"We want to build on the successes we have already had with Metro and Park&Ride, so there will be a number of changes. We hope this will build on what we introduced last September."
