NESTLE Rowntree AC's Boys team scored a resounding victory by 94 points in the final Young Athletes' League meeting at Jarrow.

The result leaves them third at the end of the season, only one point behind the eventual winners Doncaster.

Rowntree were the only team to score four wins out of five and if it hadn't have been for fielding an under strength team in the second match against the toughest opposition they may have won the league.

Rowntree athletes achieved 18 AAAs standards in the match against a previous best of six.

Nestl Rowntree senior men's track and field team retained their unbeaten run in the latest meeting at Middlesbrough.

With just one meeting left a top two placing in the Northern Men's League division two is guaranteed and to win they must finish no lower than fourth.

However, promotion to division one is guaranteed, since there are three division twos organised regionally but only one division one. The club will have a play off early in September with the top two clubs from each of the division twos to decide who goes up.

In the most recent match Rowntree had their most comfortable win of the season. In very few events did the clubs athletes finish outside the top three.

Sean Kelly had a good afternoon winning both 400 and 800m 'A' string races in 50.3 seconds and 1min in 52.4sec respectively.

The 'B' strings were won by Lewis Papa and Sandy Cowan. The 400 hurdles also yielded maximum points for the York club, with Sam Allen winning 'A' in 59.5 sec and John Gregory the 'B' in 63.9 sec. In the field events Bob Berriman won the long jump 'A' with a leap of 6.36m while Sam Allen won the 'B' with 5.52m.

John Gregory had two other 'A' string wins, the 110m hurdles in 18.5 sec and the pole vault with 3.20m.
