AN EXCITING Millennium project is starting to take shape in a York community.
People living in the Leeman Road area have begun work on a large mosaic for the Millennium Green.
The work will depict the past, present and future of the area, along with its people and the environment.
The project, which has been professionally designed by Rural Arts and developed with City of York Council's community leisure officer Michelle Bainbridge, aims to involve the whole community in the creation of the mosaic at the site.
The idea for a mosaic came from members of the Leeman Millennium Trust as a way of encouraging more local people to get involved in the Millennium Green site, which lies off Water End.
A series of workshops is being run at various venues.
Jacqui Clark, one of the trustees, said: "Doing the mosaic designs is quite addictive, playing around with tiny pieces of tile to get just the right size. It is something everyone can join in with and we particularly need more adults to come along."
A workshop was taking place today, at the church hall on Salisbury Terrace from 2pm to 8pm, followed by another at the same time and place on Tuesday, August 6.
