THIRSTY city dignitaries are preparing for one of their toughest annual tasks - testing the quality of York's beer.
The annual tradition of testing ales in the city's hostelries, the Assize of Ale, is organised by the Guild of Scriveners to raise money for charity.
This year the Sheriff of York, Councillor Martin Brumby, has ordered the city's sergeants as well as helpers and supporters to present themselves on August 10.
The group will meet on the steps of Mansion House before visiting pubs including the Last Drop Inn, Tap and Spile and the Blue Bell to test their wares.
Everyone is welcome to join the assize which meets at 2pm.
