I AM writing to congratulate York Theatre Royal on their hilarious production of Loot, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I would thoroughly recommend this show to everyone. Their Inspector Truscott reminded me of good old Basil Fawlty!

It's a real credit to York that we have such a good producing theatre and such talented actors (I believe Mark Payton and Steve Mackenna are both from York - and they are both wonderful). Well done!

...AS I stood and watched yet another outstanding performance by In Deep@the event last month, I was moved to write to let everyone know what they are missing and where to find the best-kept secret in York.

A fantastic evening of music, song and dance culminated in a medley of James Bond themes as two Bond look-a-likes descended on ropes from the balcony equipped with red roses and chocolates for the ladies.

The professional standard of all the performers was second to none, with fantastic stage lighting and effects.

Remarkably, entry is free as all costs involved are covered by the venue - the Rock Church, Priory Street, off Micklegate in York. The next event takes place tonight at around 8pm.

...I CONGRATULATE the York Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society for its wonderful gala evening of song at the Barbican Centre to celebrate its centenary.

This society may be amateur in name, but it is certainly professional in performance.

May I also thank the organisers for the excellent arrangements for wheelchair-bound patrons.
