YORK City fans' favourite Michael Proctor is relishing his Bootham Crescent return but is out to bite the hand that once fed him.

Proctor will be in a Sunderland shirt tomorrow as the Black Cats go head to head with the Minstermen in Paul Stancliffe's benefit game at Bootham Crescent, kick-off 3pm.

But after scoring 14 goals last season and finishing as City's top scorer after a season long loan, the sharp-shooter is sure to get a hero's reception from the home faithful.

Proctor admits he is looking forward to his York return but there'll be little room for sympathy as he looks to realise his dream of forcing his way into first team contention at the Stadium of Light.

He said: "I got injured in the final game of last season at Scunthorpe so it was a bit of a nightmare end to what had been a good year.

"If I'm in the team tomorrow it will be really good to see all the lads again because I really enjoyed my time at York.

"The experience did me a lot of good. I had the chance to play League football week-in, week-out and that is a little bit tougher than playing in the reserves.

"That helped me as a footballer and hopefully I can move on from there this season."

The Black Cats' first team squad are due to fly out to Belgium on Sunday for a week-long tour meaning the likes of Jason McAteer, Niall Quinn, Thomas Sorensen, Claudio Reyna and Kevin Kilbane are not expected to feature against City.

However, Slovakian international Stanislav Varga, the highly-rated Michael Reddy and the Minstermen's hero of last season, Michael Proctor, are almost certain to be involved.

And Thomas Butler, who made his Premiership debut last season, former Arsenal and Sweden midfielder Stefan Schwarz, who has been transfer-listed at the Stadium of Light, and possibly even striking misfit Lillian Laslandes, the French international, could also play.
