PIGEONS fled from York Station when Minch the common buzzard paid a visit.

The bird of prey, accompanied by Suzanne Boardman, chief executive of the charity Wildlife Information Network, visited the station to thank GNER for its support for the charity's activities.

GNER has funded a number of journeys made throughout the UK by the charity's workers producing a website and CD-rom about first aid for wild animals.

Suzanne said: "The support received from GNER was a major factor that allowed us to research and collate the information on the first aid and care of wildlife."

Jonathan Metcalfe, from GNER, was presented with a commemorative UK Wildlife CD-ROM.

He said: "Our trains pass through a wide and varied landscape which is home to all kinds of wildlife and we are very pleased to have been able to have had a direct and positive contribution to the work of the charity."
