SEWERBY continue to dominate Hunters the Estate Agent York and District Senior League division three following a comfortable win over bottom-placed Whitkirk.

The Leeds side were able to mount a handy total as Stuart Pickles made 32, Mark Murphy 26, John Colley 28 and S Atkinson 34 combined to reach 184-9. Shaun Acton bowled well for Sewerby in taking 5-22.

Mark Artley then made 47 for Sewerby, who were seen to an eight-wicket win by Chris Briggs, who hit an unbeaten 76.

With the result of the Rowntree v New Earswick game not having been received, the league tables show Heworth moving into second place after trouncing a Heslington side who have sunk into the relegation zone.

There was mixed emotions for Heworth's John Bonarious, who batted well before being dismissed for 99, He had early support from Dave Bowling (42) before Tom Quinn put the Heslington bowlers to the sword by smashing 75 off just 30 deliveries to hoist Heworth's total to 245-4.

Quinn then continued to torment his opponents as he captured 4-35 and, with Dave Bell taking 3-7, Heslington were rolled over for 81.

Woodhouse Grange had a six-wicket win at Cawood where the home side reached 169-7 through the efforts of Mark Steward (33), Stuart Baxter (26), Rich. Nicholson (26) and Steve Elliott (29 not out).

Nicholson followed with 3-35, but a quartet of Grange batsmen combined in a total of 170-4, Dave Langton making 30, J Rudd 28, Howard Johnson 45 not out and Stuart Craven 31.

Craven's namesake in the Londesbrough Park ranks made 57 when his side batted first at Civil Service. Simon Dodd (59), Phil Curtis (42) and Sam Stephenson (37) also made runs as Park reached 217-4.

Dave Randall claimed 4-86 for Service, whose reply was spearheaded by James Chisholm with 65. Dave Hanley added 38 and Johnson 34, but Richard Cooper with four 64 aided by Curtis (2-63) restricted the home side to 196-8.

Yapham kept in touch with the divisional leaders when they had the better of a draw at Hovingham despite an impressive 94 from home batsman Alistair Thorpe.

Barry Pearson make 49, Trevor Walker 25, Brian Shirley 36 and Nigel West 29 in Yapham's 197-9.

Hovingham's best bowling came from John Fairburn with 4-63 and Ian Tomlinson, who took 3-50.

Fairburn then lent good support to Thorpe with 47, but two wickets apiece for Trevor Walker, Clive Clark and Nigel West kept Yapham's nose in front as Hovingham closed on 174-6.
