MARATHON men - and teenagers - were to the fore at Kilnwick Percy GC in the 'Longest-day Challenge' in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief.

The national event challenges golfers to play 72 holes in a day, and the stamina-sapping feat was done in 'fourmidable' style at Kilnwick Percy. Vice-captain Steve Johnson and David Jacobs not only completed 72 holes in the one day, but negotiated no fewer than than 101 each.

Junior members Jamie Nesfield and Steven Kendra, meanwhile, did the statutory 72 holes with their respective dads carrying out caddie duties.

The club's David Forster Memorial trophy, a betterball stableford event, was won by David Kilford and Christine Gillyon with 44 points ahead of Linda Johnson and Phil Hazel 43 and Vivien Howson and Ray Powell 42. Kilford also won the nearest the pin and longest drive prizes, with Christine Hunter the women's longest drive and Gillyon nearest the pin.
