A YOUNG blind boy whose family holiday money was stolen can now go on the trip of his dreams thanks to the huge generosity of the people of York.

The eight-strong McLeod family, of New Earswick, York, including seven-year-old Reece, who is blind, had their dream trip to Turkey cruelly snatched away when £3,600 was stolen from their car.

An appeal to get the money back was quickly launched by former York Wasps star Graham Sullivan, through the pages of the Evening Press.

The family were today celebrating hitting their target, with a trip to Marmaris, Turkey, signed and sealed for later in the summer.

Dad Mick, of White Rose Avenue, said: "It is fantastic, the kids are absolutely cock-a-hoop. There was so much doom and gloom when we thought we weren't going to get away, but we are all really happy now.

"The effort people have put in has been amazing. Thomas Cook and Papa John's Pizzas have been great, Graham and Sadie Sullivan have been brilliant and, of course, the Evening Press has done loads for us."

The money was raised through collections, individual donations and charity events.
