FORMER company director Richard Snowball has been appointed chairman of the York City Supporters' Trust.

The new Trust Board appointed the lifelong City fan, who is now semi-retired and was involved in the Save City Campaign from the early stages, at its first meeting.

He said: "I am proud to be York and proud to be chairman of the Supporters' Trust.

"While the fans helped to save the club, there is now the opportunity for everyone to help to build a positive future for York City Football Club and sport in the local area. It won't be easy, but its well worth doing."

At the recent Supporters' Trust elections, 11 fans were elected to the new board.

A further four fans, or community representatives, can be co-opted to the board, and these positions are currently being considered.

The Trust wants to get more people closely involved in the organisation promoting the club in the area, particularly in relation to youth and community aspects.

Sophie McGill, spokesperson for the Supporters' Trust, said: "Trust representatives are already working on a number of positive initiatives with the club, such as the open day being organised for July 21.

"In addition, the Trust is working towards achieving its aim of strengthening the bonds between the Club and its community."

The Trust will be promoting the club at Copmanthorpe Carnival on Saturday, July 6, and also at Haxby Carnival on Saturday, July 20.

Consideration is being given to ways in which to use the monies generated by the Trust.

City fans have generated almost £100,000 for their cause. To date, expenditure has been restricted to necessary costs only.

Plans are now being developed to use some of the funds on specific projects to help meet the Trust's community objectives.
