HAMBLETON Primary and Ryedale School stormed to victory in the York-area Inter-Schools Orienteering Competition.
The wooded hill sides of Duncombe Park, Helmsley, were a hive of activity as 119 boys and girls put their fitness and map reading skills to the test.
The Selby-based Hambleton team (pictured above) of Alice Leake, Harriet Andrews, Daniel Kneen, Matthew Farrar, Stuart Gascoigne and Ben Cripps won the under 11 section with 825 points from Terrington, who were represented by John Burkin, Simon Gaskell, Natalie Watson, David Hill, Paul Gaskell and Lucy Shaw.
The under 13 crown went to Ryedale School 'B', whose squad of Millie Easton, Katie Mechie, Sally Turnbull, Laura Hackett, Michael Turnbull and James Dalgliesh amassed 769 points.
They finished 55 points ahead of nearest challengers Yarm School 'A'.
Other schools competing were Castle Junior (Knaresborough), Kirkbymoorside Primary, Yarm Preparatory, The Mount (York), Tregelles Junior and Tang Hall Primary.
The course was set out with assistance from the York-based Eborienteers club.
