GIRL footballers in York took out their frustration at England's World Cup defeat to Brazil on Saturday.

A five-hour event, organised for girls between the ages of eight and 16 by the City of York Girls' Football League, was staged at Hopgrove Playing Fields to allow girl enthusiasts to show off their soccer skills and receive some coaching.

The highlight was a tournament involving several York-area girls' clubs.

The winners of the under 16 group were York Ladies, with Heworth the runners-up.

The newly-formed Tadcaster Albion girls' section took the under 12s trophy with an impressive display of goal-scoring. Killinghall Nomads, from Harrogate, ran them a close second.

Girls from Rawcliffe, New Earswick, Poppleton and Wigginton also took part in the competition.
