Former Sheriff Hutton Bridge stalwart Des Wyrill supplied the killer punch for Thirsk against his old team in the York Senior League Premier Knock-Out.

The game, one of three outstanding first round ties played, saw hosts Thirsk win by six wickets to set up a second round match with old rivals Easingwold.

Other wins went to Whitkirk, who will now meet Dunnington, and Osbaldwick, who will face the winners of Heworth versus Ripon.

Two other ex-Bridge players also contributed to their former club's downfall, Barry Petty bowling his eight overs for only eight runs and Darren Wyrill taking 3-30.

Bridge opener Steve Crowder made 65 before being seventh out at 132 but only Dave Houldridge (25no) of the other batsmen made any appreciable score. John Cook took 2-28 to restrict them to 146-8.

When Thirsk replied, Keogan Luiters made 25 out of 33 for the first wicket before being bowled by Mike Smith. With the Bridge attack weakened by Joe Lumb calls, the Thirsk batsmen were able to move towards a comfortable victory with Des Wyrill making 66 not out.

Crayke batted first at home to Whitkirk but lost both their openers for 30. Jonathan Wright (43) and Paul Hutchinson (27) added 58 for the third wicket but wickets fell regularly for a final total of only 146-9.

Whitkirk were given a good base by openers Grant Galloway (26) and Andrew Pierson (29), who reached 55 before the former was bowled by Dave Thomas. Neil Edgecock continued the good work and his unbeaten 40 took Whitkirk to a seven-wicket victory in the 32nd over.

Osbaldwick's batsmen scored 90 runs off the last ten overs to beat Acomb by three wickets, with Dave Cooper gathering the bouquets for an unbeaten 74.

Earlier Chris Simpson had made 58, Andy Tute 53 and Richard Sykes 47 as Acomb moved to 194-6 with Dyron Joshi capturing 3-28.

Cooper's main assistance came from Damian Ashton (31) as the pair fashioned an 82-run stand.
