FORMER Bradford City coach Kevin Hornsby has joined the revolution at Bootham Crescent.

The 46-year-old - who was a Minstermen target last summer - has been added to the boot-room staff at York City as fitness coach. He will also double up as kit man, in place of Steve Brown, who has become manager at Northern Counties East League outfit Pickering Town.

Hornsby was lauded for his work with Chesterfield when they won promotion under Nicky Law and he moved with Law when he took over at Bradford. However, he has been forced out of Valley Parade because of enforced cost-cutting measures by the cash-strapped club.

Minstermen assistant boss Aide Shaw said: "I've worked with Kevin before, at Chesterfield, and I've known him for a few years.

"I first met him when we both worked in the community side at Chesterfield. He's always been interested in fitness, and has carried that on over the last few years in football.

"When Chesterfield got promoted two years ago, it had a lot to do with the way he prepared the lads. He went with Nicky Law to Bradford and he would have been there a lot longer if what has happened did not happen.

"We tried to get him this time last year but he decided to go to Bradford, which you understand, but we've got him now and we think he's ideal for the job."

Hornsby formerly owned two gyms and competed in the 1991 British Body Building Championships, finishing second.

"Fitness is the way football is going," added Shaw. "Players need to be physically fit and mentally ready and to get things right on the nutritional side of things, and with Kevin working alongside (physio) Jeff Miller, it puts us in good hands."
