DETECTIVES investigating the death of York busker Tony Grayson today arrested another person.

A 36-year-old man was detained this afternoon, following the earlier arrest of a 35-year-old woman in "the York area".

Detective Chief Inspector Javad Ali, who has been leading the investigation, said both had been arrested "in connection with the circumstances surrounding the death of Anthony Grayson".

The pair were being questioned by detectives at a city police station in York.

Mr Grayson died on June 4 at the flat in George Street, off Walmgate, which he shared with his fiance and partner of six years, Jackie Dawson.

At the time, she told the Evening Press she had called emergency services at about 6am that morning after Mr Grayson had been found lying on the living room floor.

A murder-style inquiry was launched after a post-mortem examination revealed he had suffered internal injuries, thought to have been caused in a violent attack.

York detectives have been working with colleagues in Essex Police as Mr Grayson was believed to have been attacked by three men outside Castle Park, in Colchester town centre, some time over the weekend of May 25 and 26. Police were trying to trace two men who were seen with Mr Grayson in the park before the attack.

Officers have also been investigating information that Mr Grayson, who was part of York's drug user community, was attacked in York only days before he died.

Just last week detectives launched a poster campaign across the city urging people to come forward and help them piece together his movements between May 20 and June 4.

More than 100 posters were put up at spots in the centre of York where Mr Grayson, 38, was a familiar sight busking on his harmonica with his dog, Benji.

Areas targeted included Exhibition Square, Museum Gardens, Scarborough Bridge and St George's Field.

Throughout their investigation, detectives have repeated that they were keeping "an open mind" as to the circumstances surrounding Mr Grayson's death.

Mr Grayson's mother, Ethel Dobbs, who lives near York, previously made an emotional appeal for anyone with information to come forward and help detectives.

Det Chief Insp Ali said he would still like to hear from anyone with information. Detectives in the case can be contacted on 01904 618618. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
