FORMER York City Baths Club star Robin Francis has been included in the England swimming team for the Commonwealth Games.

Francis, a former pupil of St Peter's School, York, is now based with Team Bath.

The 20-year-old University of Bath member virtually sealed his place by winning the 400m and 200m individual medley titles at the British Championships in April. He took silver in the same meeting in the 200m breaststroke.

Francis will be a genuine medal prospect after winning silver in the European Short Course Championships in January.

The 57-strong England squad features competitors for the swimming, diving and synchronised swimming at this year's Games, and includes five elite athletes with a disability (EAD) who will compete in four EAD swimming events.

The team includes Mark Foster, who won gold medals in the

50m freestyle at Victoria in Canada in 1994 and Kuala Lumpur in 1998.

Other squad members include Leeds-based James Hickman, winner of the 200m butterfly gold at the last Commonwealths four years ago, breaststroke specialists James Gibson and Darren Mew, as well as Zoe Baker, who broke the European 50m breaststroke record on her way to winning the event at the British Long Course Swimming Championships in April.
