Up Tempo, without a win since he was a two-year-old, can finally get back on the glory trail at Carlisle tomorrow.

The four-year-old, trained by Tim Easterby, goes for the Crowther Homes Handicap and will have the assistance of Darryll Holland, a significant jockey booking in the absence of the injured Robert Winston.

Up Tempo was a decent juvenile in 2000, but, despite running some solid races in defeat, not least when finishing fourth in the William Hill Trophy at York, he failed to win last season.

It has been much the same this term, but Up Tempo, who has slipped down the handicap rating by a stone, gave notice that his winning turn is imminent.

At York on his latest outing, he finished a close-up sixth to Bond Boy in a competitive six furlongs handicap.

Tomorrow's step up to seven furlongs should suit him ideally and Up Tempo is napped to get back on the winning trail.

Cumbrian Venture can be another Easterby winner in the European Breeders Fund Maiden Stakes.

The two-year-old has figured in the money in his last three starts and finished a good second at York on his latest outing when stepping up to tomorrow's distance of six furlongs for the first time. He deserves to get his head in front.

The £20,000 Crowther Homes Carlisle Bell is the feature race of the day and Archirondel makes plenty of appeal.

Trained at Newmarket by the shrewd John Berry, Archirondel scored in fine style at Beverley three weeks ago.

Although he has been campaigned over longer distances in the past, Archirondel seems well suited to around one mile these days. The four-year-old has every chance of obliging again.

At Salisbury, Amoras, trained by John Hills, has strong hat-trick claims in the featured Noel Cannon Memorial Trophy Handicap.

The five-year-old scored at Brighton last month and followed-up in decisive fashion at Leicester last month. Although she has climbed up the ratings, another success may be within her compass.

Kieren Fallon, who stacked-up four winners at Yarmouth last night, has been booked to partner Pious in the Goadsby & Harding Fillies' Handicap.

A beaten favourite at Windsor last time, when the going was on the soft side, Pious is well worth another chance on this sounder surface.
