THREE young children were among the victims in a string of accidents on North and East Yorkshire's roads.

A four-year-old girl was today said to be "stable" in intensive care following one of the accidents.

The youngster was being pulled along in a buggy attached to her father's bike when they were both hit by a Land Rover, on the A1034 between South Cave and North Newbald, near Market Weighton, in East Yorkshire.

Her 52-year-old father was also today said to be stable after undergoing emergency surgery on his legs. They are both in Hull Royal Infirmary.

Her mother, who was riding behind on her bike, was an eyewitness to the collision, which happened at about 8.30am yesterday.

Witnesses should phone 01405 721000. The Land Rover driver did not stop after the crash, but later went to Pocklington police station where he was arrested and released on police bail.

In a separate accident, two young brothers were treated in hospital, and later released, after they were involved in a crash on the A19 at Riccall at 1.30pm on Saturday.

The boys, Samuel Allitt, aged nine, and one-year-old Benjamin, were in a Ford Ka which was in collision with a Fiesta. The Ka was being driven by their mother, whose condition is unknown.

The Fiesta driver, 44-year-old Geoffrey McKeown, and his passenger, Ann McKeown, 44, both of Riccall, were taken to hospital, but later released.

A motorcylist was involved in a minor incident with a Ford Fiesta at about 5.30pm yesterday, near the westbound slip road of the A64 at Malton.

Meanwhile, motorcyclist Philip Atkinson is today said to be "stable" in Leeds General Infirmary after he was knocked off his bike in Holgate Road York, last Wednesday.

Selby teenager Martin Mills was today "poorly, but stable" in hospital after being knocked down by a car as he walked along a major road near Selby with two friends.

Martin Mills, 19, was hit by a green Vauxhall Cavalier as he walked along the A1041, Bawtry Road, at 11.40pm on Friday evening.
