YORK rider Phil Brighton was just edged out in the latest round of the Joe Dalby Evening Road Race Series.
He seemed to have victory within his grasp as the near 60-rider field came to the end of a 55km course based around Milby near Boroughbridge.
After a blistering start, the scratch group of riders caught the rest of the field with two laps to go. Paul Caswell (Harrogate Nova) tried to break away with two miles left but was brought back by the bunch.
Into the final 300 metres Phil Brighton (Samson & Dellilah/ceejay

Dean Arey (Racescene Barnsley), just managed to get past Brighton in the last few metres to win, leaving a disappointed Brighton in second place and Elliott Teal (Sheffield) in third.
