THOUSANDS of people are expected to flock to York's Knavesmire this weekend for the Rally Cycle Show taking place today and tomorrow.

About 15,000 people are set to attend the two-day event, with today's highlight being the Ron Kitching Memorial Ride.

About 150 competitors are due to take part including TV's Tour de France commentator, Phil Liggett.

There will be a choice of two courses, one of 100km and another of 150km.

The event is being staged in honour of Ron Kitching, who lived in Harrogate, and was a co-founder of the York Rally.

Throughout today, there will also be grass track racing, a cycle auction and a slide show at 7.30pm

Tomorrow sees the first Emergency 999 event, which will see York cycling paramedic Mark Inman put to the test.

The challenge will involve Mark having to carry his equipment around a set course, unpack and pack it again in a given time.

Other events tomorrow include a vintage cycle display, tandem and trike racing and grass track racing.
