PRACTISING their moves for a dance performance tonight are children from Clifton Green Primary School's dance club in York.

They will be taking part in a show, called Eight New Moves, at the Barbican, which will feature work by eight different groups and schools, as part of Dance Week York.

The Clifton Green girls are the youngest-ever group to take part in the annual event, and the five to seven-year-olds will be dancing as bats and butterflies in a performance called Enchanted Airways.

The other groups involved are All Saints' RC School, Bell Farm Adventure Playground, KDANZ, Hempland Primary School, Red Shoes Dance Studio, St Lawrence's CE Primary School and Step by Step.

Dance Week organisers, from City of York Council Arts Service, commissioned four choreographers and four composers to work on original performances with groups and schools.

The choreographers were Shaun Clarke, Melanie Moon, Rebecca Simpson and Gerry Turvey and the composers Richard Lower, John Pattison, Philip Thwaite and Jon Ward.

Tickets, priced £5 for adults and £2.50 for children and OAPs, are available from the Barbican Centre box office on 01904 656688. The show starts at 7.30pm.
