A FIRST defeat for Bubwith increased the heat in the race for the Foss Evening League championship as it reached mid-point.

Bubwith suffered a 17-run reverse to Aldby Park who closed to within one point together with Woodhouse Grange.

Aldby were largely indebted to an innings of 46 from Pete Aconley as they totalled 82-4.

Bubwith also found run-scoring hard with only Dave Bunks 24 and John Waterhouse 18 reaching double figures as they struggled to 65-9. Aconley collected 3-7 backed up by Barry Aconley 3-13 and Alan Day 2-17.

Woodhouse Grange recorded a nine-wicket success over champions Yapham. David Ogran 41 and Paul Barnes with an unbeaten 22 led Yapham to 110-4. Howard Johnson with a powerful 57 and David Langton 32 ensured Woodhouse had few problems in reaching their target.

Rod Hinch, with a fluent unbeaten 68, received good support from Richie Bowen 18 as Pocklington posted a useful 115-3. Alex Downey 3-11 and John Murray 3-25 then struck early as Heworth collapsed to 85-9.

Barmby Moor finally got off the mark in the bottom of the table clash defeating Stamford Bridge by five wickets. Barmby owed much to Mike Newhouse who scored an invaluable 55.

In division two Wilberfoss continued to impress. Visitors Londesborough Park struggled to 84-8 and although the home side had a few scares, Phil Stothard (26) and Neil Smith (14no) sealed their sixth consecutive victory.
