BROUGHTON ZEST, winner of her last two races, can complete a hat-trick at Redcar tomorrow.

John Best's filly looks to have found the ideal opportunity to oblige again in the Salmanazar Handicap over a mile and a quarter.

Broughton Zest got off the mark at Yarmouth and followed up under a penalty in terrific style at Beverley last Wednesday evening.

Best is obviously keen to continue to strike while the iron is hot and Broughton Zest carries the same 6lb penalty tomorrow. She will be very difficult to beat in the hands of Geoirge Baker.

Kevin Darley, whose Derby mount Fight Your Corner yesterday underwent surgery on a fractured hind cannon-bone after finishing fifth in Saturday's Classic, will be operating on a much more basic level at Redcar.

The former champion jockey joins forces with Mark Johnston, trainer of the unfortunate Fight Your Corner, who sends out Celtic Sapphire to contest her first race in the Methuselah Median Auction Maiden Stakes.

Johnston's two-year-olds have been hitting the target with regularity recently and although Celtic Sapphire is unlikely to be fully wound-up for her debut, he promises to run a big race.

Xellance could be another winner for Darley and Johnston in the Half Bottle Claiming Stakes.

Best filly has the Zest

A former prolific winner, Xellance has been out of form this season, but he would not need to be anything like his best to win this modest event.

Dawn Alibi has shown enough in his two races to date to suggest he can make it third-time-lucky in the Magnum Selling Stakes, while Capacoostic makes plenty of appeal in the Anderson Barrowcliff Fillies' Handicap.

Trained by Roy Bowring, Capacoostic has finished in the frame in big fields on his last two starts in an amateur riders' race here and an apprentices' event at Doncaster. Off bottom weight, the five-year-old is awarded my Nap vote in an open race.

Down at Salisbury, a note should be made of North Yorkshire raider Manorbier in the £10,000 Tote Jackpot Showcase Handicap.

Trained at Hambleton by the in-form Kevin Ryan, the six-year-old has knitted together three rock-solid efforts lately, his most recent outing at Kempton seeing him meet plenty of trouble before finishing a close-up fourth.

Manorbier is overdue a winning turn and he could well strike lucky this time in the hands of Fergal Lynch, who enjoyed the thrill of finishing fourth in Saturday's Vodafone Derby on rank outsider Jelani, trained by Andy Turnell at Norton.

Also worth noting at Salisbury are the promising Dawn Invasion (4.00) and the progessive Fine Arts (4.30).
