AIRCRAFT and instructors from RAF Linton-on-Ouse, near York, are to take part in a Golden Jubilee flypast in front of the Queen next week.

The Queen will be undertaking a Review of her Military Forces at Whale Island, Portsmouth, on Thursday June 27.

Thirty-one Tucano T1 aircraft from Linton's Flying Training School, accompanied by support aircraft, will make an opening flypast formation of "E 11 R" to welcome the Queen.

The formation will be led by Wing Commander Mike Longstaff, Chief Instructor at Linton. He said it would be one of the largest close formations flown by the RAF in the past 25 years. "It is a privilege and honour for me to lead such a flypast to celebrate Her Majesty's Golden Jubilee."

Station commander Group Captain Ken Cornfield said the involvement of the base in the Jubilee celebrations was a "signal honour" for all personnel. "The skill and professionalism of the flying instructors involved is of the highest order."
