HOW can they fail? Even the nation's dogs are behind them!
The England football team have received a boost from an unusual source - the National Canine Defence League.
The NCDL Rehoming Centre in Leeds - the centre nearest York - has received 12 dogs in a week, and, in a show of support, staff have named them after the England first eleven.
One dog has even been named after manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.
It remains to be seen whether the dogs will take on the characteristics of their more famous namesakes. Adoption of their haircuts seems unlikely.
Those with an interest in providing a home for one of the dogs can phone the NCDL Leeds on 01132 613194.
