I WAS interested to read the feature by Nick Hallissey on the forthcoming retirement of the four 25-pounder field guns used for Royal Salutes at the Museum Gardens (June 13).
These guns have an association with York and served in the Second World War, so I suggest it would be appropriate for City of York Council to bid for one. It would mark Jubilee year and the city's long link with the Army.
It could be sited on the bank of the Ouse at the Blue Bridge, where a gun captured in the Crimean War used to stand. Perhaps the Evening Press could launch an appeal for donations - I should be happy to contribute.
