THERE was a repeat of last year's final in the Edward Readman Memorial Trophy when Duncombe Park avenged last season's defeat against Carlton Towers when they emerged as winners by two wickets - despite six of their batsmen being dismissed for ducks.

David Longley made 38 as Carlton were restricted to 116-7 by Justin Lewis who had 3-31.

Duncombe Park were then reduced to 36-5 by Phil Day (3-15) but opener Brian Leckenby then found an ally in Colin Humpleby, who helped hoist the score to 72 before he fell for 20.

Two further quick wickets put Carlton back on top as Park's total reached 80-8 but 16-year-old David Gardiner then made a cool 19 not out as he and Leckenby (62no) added an unbeaten 39 for the ninth-wicket.

Neil Johnson cracked 115 and Ben Nicholson 89 as Malton & Old Malton soared to 264-5 against Londesbrough Park.

Park were never in the hunt and had only reached 74-5 when rain brought an abandonment, with justice being done as Malton went through to round two on a faster run-rate basis.

In a game played on an evening, Civil Service gained a 42-run victory over New Earswick.

Gavin Ritchie put Service on top with an unbeaten 69 while Simon Brown (27) and Chris Johnson (20no) helped produce a total of 138-2 in 20 overs.

Chris Smith (23) and John Routledge Snr (24no) were the pick of the Earswick batsmen but Reece Houghton took 3-16 and Mark Thompson 3-18 to restrict Earswick to 96-8.

Richard Till with 44, John Flintoff 38 and Matt Till 31 helped Sessay to a six-wicket win at Goole Town for whom Anthony Gibbins had made 30 and Dave England 32 in a total of 140-9.

Studley Royal lost three wickets in overtaking Yapham's all out score of 82.

Sewerby hit a big score at Selby when they made 210-5 through Vince O'Grady (72) and Mike Artley (60no). Peter Hoyle responded with 42 but Naseer Khan took 4-23 and Peter Baxter 3-19 to dismiss the home side for 129.

Wilberfoss powered to a nine-wicket victory over Bolton Percy, who had posted a useful 168-8 with Alistair Rigby making an unbeaten 80.

Julian Atkinson took 3-33 for Foss and then saw Peter Stothard hit 50 before Geoff Room (79no) and Ian Clish (26no) set up an away game with Studley Royal in round two.
