PROMOTION chasing Yapham had a frustrating experience when their game at New Earswick was the only game in division three to be abandoned due to the waterlogged state of the pitch.

Yapham's nine-point award was insufficient to prevent them slipping to fourth place behind Rowntree whose victory bid was thwarted by Cawood's tenth-wicket pair.

Five Rowntree batsmen made significant contributions to help secure the full five batting points as a total of 201-4 was posted. Openers Richard Tuite (38) and Gerry Capelin (44) set the ball rolling before Nick Sedgwick and Paul Horner each made 35 to keep the board ticking over. Sean Marshall then took his side past the 200-mark with an unbeaten 29.

When Cawood batted, Stuart Baxter made 31 before Miles Taylor dug in to frustrate the home side with 43. Dave Thompson captured 3-40 but Cawood's last pair were able to hold out for a draw at 150-9.

Divisional pacesetters Sewerby showed their pedigree by successfully chasing Heslington's score of 183-8 to emerge as victors by six wickets.

Heslington's innings was another five-star affair with Chris Dower making 27, Ryan Elliott 26, Robin Cockerill 27, John Myers 35 and Paul Neal 29 while Naseer Khan had 3-35 for Sewerby.

Khan then added 43 before his side were steered to victory by Mark Langley (43no) and Ian Pearson (53no).

David Bowling hit 30 and Graham Hogben made 44 not out as Heworth recorded a six-wicket win over Londesbrough Park.

Phil Curtis made 36 for Park but Trevor Walton took 4-37 as they were restricted to 139-9.

Hovingham's Jonty Rounthwaite had impressive figures of 4-1 as he and Richie Brown bowled their side to an 82-run win over Woodhouse Grange who were nipped out for 40.

John Fairburn had made 42 and Nick Elliott 34 but Graham Smith had bowled Woodhouse into a good position with a 5-25 spell which had Hovingham all out for 122.

This fairly modest total soon proved to be more than adequate as Brown and Rounthwaite set about their task and, with Brown spearheading the destruction with 5-20, Woodhouse batsmen faired badly.

Civil Service climbed up the table when they sent Whitkirk II crashing to their seventh defeat of the season.

Whitkirk's top scorer was John Colley who made 41 with other runs coming from Tom Clarke (29) and S Atkinson (26) while ex-British Sugar player Paul Wynn took 4-63 and Simon Brown 3-31.

Service's Gavin Ritchie lost two partners in reaching 54-2 but then he and Jamie Chisholm (23no) took their side to an eight-wicket win with Ritchie remaining undefeated on 84.
