Poppleton Tennis Club Panthers junior team drew 5-5 at home to Gryffindors of Ripon in their Yorkshire Mini-Tennis League match.
Poppleton Under-11 girls lost 5-1 at Batley in the National Junior Club League.
With half of their matches played, Panthers have lost only once and are handily placed to mount a championship challenge.
The Panthers had led Gryffindors 3-1 after the first round of matches.
Hannah Chambers came back to win after losing the first set 7-5. There were straight sets victories for Tom Craddock and Phillipa Jones. Emily Garland was unlucky to lose to Cameron Leader, who in the reverse singles inflicted the first defeat of the season on Craddock.
Garland was squeezed out in three tight sets in her second singles match and there was a narrow defeat for Jones. The doubles were shared.
In the Under-11 girls' fixture, Faye Garland came back from losing the first set 6-1 to take the match on a third set tie-break against an opponent considered one of the best in England in her age group. Jane Wallace and Natalie Jones showed promise.
